What is a Moulded Case Circuit Breaker (MCCB)?

A Moulded Case Circuit Breaker (MCCB) is an electrical circuit breaker designed to protect circuits from overload and short circuit faults. MCCBs are commonly used in industrial and commercial power distribution systems where higher current ratings are required. IPD supplies ABB MCCBs in standard sizes up to 1600amp, suitable for switchboard breaker and feeder breaker applications.

A Moulded Case Circuit Breaker (MCCB) is a low-voltage protection device used to safeguard electrical circuits from overloads, short circuits and faults. MCCBs are designed for higher current ratings and fault levels than standard MCBs, making them ideal for industrial, commercial and infrastructure power distribution systems. ABB offers a comprehensive MCCB portfolio, including the SACE XT range for compact and flexible applications, the T-Series MCCBs for higher voltage and demanding AC or DC systems, and the Isomax MCCB range for heavy-duty, high-performance installations. Together, ABB MCCBs deliver reliable protection, system flexibility and long-term operational safety.

What MCCB sizes and ratings are available from IPD?

IPD offers MCCBs in a wide range of circuit breaker ratings, up to 1600 amp. The ABB SACE Tmax XT series supports adjustable protection settings, allowing accurate coordination for overcurrent protection circuits and short circuit protection requirements. These power circuit breakers meet Australian standards and suit both panel mount and chassis mount installations.

ABB SACE XT MCCBs cover a broad selection of current ratings from about 16 A up to 1600 A, with compact frame sizes (XT1, XT2, XT3, XT4, XT5, XT6, XT7) and interrupting capacities suited to power distribution and motor applications. Typical AC rated voltages reach up to 690 V, with breaking capacities varying by frame and trip unit options.

The ABB T-Series MCCBs extend the current range  32 A up to around 630amp, with high interrupting capacities and rated for 1000 VAC applications.

ABB Isomax MCCBs historically span 32 A up to around 800A  with variuos frame sizes with breaking capacities up to 200 kA (AC), suitable for heavy-duty industrial use, AC/DC systems and optional protection functions

What accessories are available for IPD MCCBs?

IPD supplies a full range of MCCB accessories, including auxiliary contact blocks, auxiliary relays, breaker lockout devices, and circuit breaker enclosures. These circuit breaker parts enhance safety, monitoring, and maintenance across switchboard circuit breaker installations. Accessories are designed to integrate seamlessly with ABB SACE Tmax MCCBs, ensuring reliable operation in demanding environments.

ABB MCCBs offer a wide range of accessories to extend functionality, enable remote control, signalling and enhance safety. For SACE XT & Tmax T-Series MCCBs, accessories include auxiliary and alarm contacts for open/closed or trip signalling, shunt trip and undervoltage release coils for remote opening, motor operators and stored-energy operators for automated switching, rotary or transmitted handles, and terminal extensions and covers for installation flexibility.

The Isomax range similarly supports duty releases (shunt/shunt-closing/undervoltage), auxiliary signal contacts, connectors, motor operating mechanisms, interlocks, terminal kits, and mechanical/lock accessories for tailored protection and control
