Providing reliable high-capacity surge protection in main switchboards, sub-boards and distribution boards is essential in areas that can be affected by lightning related surges or unstable grid supplies.
The Australian Lightning Protection standard AS 1768:2021 recommends the use of surge protection with a maximum discharge capacity (Imax) of 100kA 8/20µs and/or maximum impulse current (limp) of 10kA 10/350µs for main switchboards, or higher in areas of high exposure to lightning.
The Novaris SDN3 models of surge diverters come with Imax capacities of 100kA, 150kA or 200kA 8/20µs in compact DIN mounting, monoblock arrangements. The SDN3 has segmented redundancy, LED indication per MOV, and provide all-mode protection covering L-L, L-N, L-E and N-E. An active alarm contact is provided as standard.
To ensure suitability against the threat of direct and indirect lightning-related surges and transients, the SDN3 range is also rated for Iimp maximum impulse currents of 12.5kA, 18.75kA or 25kA 10/350µs.
The SDN3 range provides a cost effective, space saving solution for surge protection requirements in non-MEN switchboards.
IPD supports the full range of Novaris surge protection solutions and offer application assistance to ensure the right choice of protection for any application.
